Chapeltown Crossroads
CHAPELTOWN AND HIGH GREEN ARCHIVE
Founded in March 1987, the Archive is an ever-expanding collection of materials in the form of photographs, films, documents, artefacts and taped and written recollections. These materials relate to the economic and social history of Chapeltown, High Green, Ecclesfield, Grenoside, Howbrook, Thorpe Hesley, Wentworth, Tankersley and surrounding areas. The Archive is a purely voluntary venture managed by a small group of local enthusiasts. It is financed through the sales of books and through small grants and donations.
The Archive consists of over 3000 negatives and prints relating to the district, its people and its industries. This photographic archive includes the extensive collection of negatives and prints of the late Alan Boulton, a set of 40 large exhibition prints taken by the late Howard Briddon, and two small, but valuable collections of glass negatives donated by Bryan Dawson and Ivan Martin. Other important additions have been made possibly by many individuals who have generously donated or loaned photographs for copying.
We mount exhibitions in halls, libraries and museums.
